Seeing the potential for digital book downloads to become a huge growth market in the near future, true has invested 10 million baht in building Thailand’s first digital bookstore, www. truebookstore.com, according to Mana Prapakamol, General Manager at True Digital Content and Media.

Political turmoil in Thailand will slow down the growth of the IT market by at least 10 percent and make Indonesia and Vietnam more attractive in Asean, according to a Thai IT executive. Meanwhile a computer event at Siam Paragon will be postponed to May.

Narong Intanate, Executive Director Asean at ECS Holding, a regional ICT provider, said the political situation in Thailand will make the IT market less attractive in terms of foreign direct investment compared with Vietnam, which offers special privileges and ECS is considering the possibility of investing there.

The company achieved its sales' target last year with a revenue of some 5 billion baht, according to managing director Mayuree Chatmethakul, who noted that some sectors, especially banking, insurance and finance still have purchasing power.

They continue investing in IT this year to transform for better performance and open more multi-channel services. The conditions of compliance, regulations and security are also factors that financial institutes have to inject into budgeting for IT.
